a little more....?
... nah, this'll do for now
obsessed with old gay porno movies. 51 yr-old dirty old man, give me more porn!
... i can't honestly say; but that's not really the point. recreational sex has (mostly) lost it's appeal for me, at least these past 2 months, maybe more. Don't get me wrong if you were one of the handful of men who's crotches I've sniffed in the past 6 months - it was fun, and i don't regret those few moments or hours. it's just that, well, a second time - whether a meal together, a cup of coffee on a park bench, a beer at a bar where we meet up and have an actual conversation before the alcohol takes it's toll - would've not only been nice, but would have made that actual first meeting somehow seem even better. i dunno how to explain - it's not as simple as "i miss having a boyfriend"; i know enough that that takes time, even years, if at all. but just having that little boost, knowing someone i had a nice time with actually liked me enough to try a second round. that he thought about me afterwards, smiled to himself and thought, "wonder what that guy's about", - - ya know?
trouble is, i have some bad habits - or rather, habits that aren't helping me meet guys in a better way. I've slowed down quite a bit on bars, and drinking - in fact just last night, i was at the eagle for the first time in 2 months, had a bottle of water, wandered around, and confirmed for myself that, yeah, there's some hot men here, but the chances of a connection other than bumping balls is real real slim. I know, I know, not impossible, as I have proof of that from the last boyfriend who I met there just 4-1/2 years ago. but simply NOT going to bars, and NOT drinking, doesn't put me where my chances of actually meeting someone can happen. and egad, i've even resorted to considering (here's where my laziness comes in handy) - just considering, going to this thing on saturday. ugh.
but at the same time it's not as bad as these two paragraphs might imply. back to last night at the eagle. yup, i stayed for only 20 minutes or so. but i didn't leave sad or mad, just kinda confirmed for myself that i gotta look elsewhere, or differently. and within minutes of being on my bike, 3am and 60 degrees, soaring down 9th avenue, i was smiling, and humming my new favorite tune, Burn Brighter Flame (which, by the way, will be released as single, with an instrumental version and a remix - WOO-HOO!), which somehow bridged the gap between the excitement of moving to Manhattan back in 1983, and still struggling to find ways to enjoy it these days..... (there's a reason "ramblings" is in the blog title, no?)
Burn ‘til the world refuses love to none....
So, as some of you may have noticed, I'm really digging the new Patrick Cowley & Jorge Socarras release, Catholic. OK, well maybe you didn't notice, but someone did, and I got an email yesterday asking if I'd ever managed to extract the music from the Fox Studios vintage film, School Daze. The quick answer was, nope, never managed to do it. But, I was in a curious mood last night, so I spent several hours downloading and experimenting with several free DVD extracting programs, and while non quite did what I would've liked - I only got as far as creating several random 5-minute musical clips - I figured y'all might enjoy this peak into what Cowley was doing around 1982. So, here ya go: random 5 minutes of music from School Daze soundtrack, by Patrick Cowley, and another random 5 minutes of music from School Daze soundtrack, by Patrick Cowley. (compare that last one with the commercial versions I posted back here.)
didn't take a lot of photos; and now it's early monday morning and I'm mulling over the weekend. Good thing about working at a non-profit, I get days like Columbus Day off. Oh wait, isn't that new phone systme going in today? and aren't I kinda like the guy in charge of that kinda stuff there?
D'oh!
.... he got his shit together, booked a hotel, and cheap roundtrip bus fare, and got his ass on the road at 7am on a saturday and joined the other kids heading for washington d.c..
p.s - he even got an extra bed in that room, so if you need a place to sleep......
funny, this pic isn't what I thought i was photographing, but i like it anyway. with less than a day left in town, (and two hours left on the bike rental), a last look at the quiet bay in late afternoon.
in other news - dammit - i really wish i had planned this week better, as i really really wanted to be in washington sunday, but have to be at work early monday. grrrr. sigh. ugh.
have i mentioned how i used to have this porno-themed blog? nevermind. anyhoo.... i am really looking forward to the release of the sitting-in-a-basement for 30-years Patrick Cowley / Jorge Socarras album "Catholic". You can listen to the album over on the Patrick Cowley & Jorge Socarras's MySpace page (but it has that annoying autoplay feature - you've been warned). Each time I listen, I decide on a different new favorite song - whether it's Robot Children, Rooms, or Burn Brighter Flame, i just love this album and can't wait for it's release! (I think in the long run, their awesome cover of Hurdy Gurdy Man will probably be my fave.) What's funny is that for years, my biggest complaint about a lot of Cowley's stuff was the mediocre-to-godawful vocals - and here we have Indoor Life's Socarras's giving the Cowley sound an appropriate touch - ranging from soothing, to crazed, to silly to eerie - wonder if he'll try to tour to promote the album? Anyone who's heard the soundtracks Cowley did for Fox Studios porno videos in the early 80's will hear those sounds all over this album - just great stuff! As cool as it is that they're having an event over on the west coast - "Megatron Man: The Life & Times of Patrick Cowley." - sure would be nice if they did something here in NYC, eh?
now, before you send me an email congratulating me on my excellent camera skills, you have to understand: the boat is moving, the dang animals are moving; there are several of them in several spots, and the people around me are all moving to get a better shot, or to just get a better view. More significantly, I am literally f*ckin peein' in my pants as these guys are coming right at us, and i'm giggling like a four-year-old, the camera goes sideways, then points up at the sky, as one of these boys goes right under the boat. everyone says it, and it is true - you cry. it's my fourth time seeing these big ol' guys, and yet, i still get so overcome with emotion, i can no longer point the camera, i can only just stare with mouth open to my knees and let the waterworks flow, and that silly grin appears that not only lasts several hours that day, but keep reappearing, like right now, two week later.
Director: Jack Deveau (1972)
Deveau's first film stars Ray Frank, Robert Rikas (who was also in Rob Simple's American Cream, also from the early 70's) and Larry Burns. Bob Rikas, who is apparently str8, with a girlfriend, is seduced by Ray Frank (who meets Rikas at his pal's antique shop shortly after giving, and receiving, a blow job in a public bathroom). As their relationship develops, str8 guy drops the girlfriend, and sees more of Frank. Larry seems a bit left out (although we do get to see a hot fantasy scene with him, shot in black and white) and by the end of the film arranges an orgy, inviting his old friend Ray to participate. But, alas, he "inadvertently" arranges for his dope dealer, formerly str8 Bob, to drop by around the time that the orgy is just finishing up, catching his new lover Frank in the middle of it all. Got that?
