UNDERGROUND

director: Peter de Rome; from the 1973 release, The Erotic Films of Peter de Rome

Peter de Rome's first public showing of one of his Super 8 films was at the First International Wet Dream Film Festival in Amsterdam, and he won Best Short for Hot Pants (in 1971 or '72). Soon after that he was introduced to Jack Deveau, who had just started his own production company, Hand In Hand Films, and was putting the finishing touches on his first feature-length film, Left-Handed. After seeing several of his films, Jack asked de Rome what he planned to do with them - de Rome replied "oh nothing - they were just made for fun." Deveau was sure that they could be successful commerically, and suggested blowing them up to 16mm, and putting the shorts together as something like The Erotic Films of Peter de Rome (which is how it was released in April of 1973, first shown at the Lincoln Art Theater on 57th St. in Manhattan). After offering to be de Rome's producer, they agreed on several of the shorts to include, and also decided to make two new ones to round out the collection. He decided to try a fantasy he had thought about frequently - cruising and having sex on the NYC subway. They did most of the cruising shots in the morning, during rush hour, and the sex scenes mostly later that same night, with the final fuck on the F train going to Queens. The most basic of plots - a young hippie-type boards a subway train, spots a clean-cut executive-type, smiles are exchanged, crotches are furtively rubbed, etc. The actors were apparently so into it, and each other, that they were oblivious to the doors opening at the West 4th St station, trousers at their ankles, going at it. This clip is most of the original film, but taken from the fantastic 1975 "documentary" Good Hot Stuff, which I think gives a pretty cool set-up at the onset.

fruit

as much as i need to overcome my neurotic fears, i also need to listen to myself, and one thing i've learned of late - no drinking two nights in a row! and definitely don't return to the same bar with the sucky sucky music from the previous nite! so i paid for it all day - completely lethargic, aimless, uninterested and uninteresting...... (look for that silver lining) - hmmmmm, oh yeah, i bought fresh, organic, locally grown fruit.

if i just stare at this machine, the next boyfriend will magically appear, right?

ok, i dont really think that will happen, but based on the amount of time i do spend here, you'd think that's what i thought. (but if it were possible, then i think the grim expression is key to making it happen) i did make myself get out of the house last night, bike ride west, and after much pacing and up the stairs and down the stairs and leaning and staring and glaring and, goddamn the music sucked - like nonstop sucky music, which really sucks when there's not much to distract you from the sucky music. did i mention i didn't like the music - cuz it really sucked .....anyhoo, eventually there was distraction, which was nice, and he looked and felt better than he had looked all those times we passed without speaking or stopping, but there was a moment, a not unexpected moment, but still, a moment where my thoughts trailed off to the ex, and a slight panic, and sadness, that I couldn't remember his voice. i dont know why this happened, or why it became so important, and as i could feel my facial expression change to match my mood, i turned kinda out of out his direct eyesight, and forced myself out of the mood that i was sinking into, at least enough to reconnect, and show that i was glad that this generous man was being kind to me, and i made a point to make direct eyecontact again, and could see something, maybe his own sadness about some such thing in his own life, and i at least felt less alone, and we both seemed to smile again at the same moment, and i got my reminder about why its important for me to get out, and take these mini risks...... even if the music really really sucks - like totally, totally sucks, ya know?

now completely unrelated, but not really, but yes, unrelated. sometimes sitting in front of this thing isnt so bad, if i just remember to keep the tunes rolling..... a fave for sort of doing chores, or just something a bit more background-like is AIR's Premiers Symptomes - apparently a collection of early singles, I guess. It's just this wonderfully pleasant music, and then the last track on the album just kicks it up a bunch of notches - Brakes On, and you are just forced up out of your chair to dance in your underwear, ya know?

I heart Keith Anthoni
CATCHING UP

"Now you're talking like a fag." "What should I talk like, a Marine?"

director: Tom DeSimone (1975)
Starring: Keith Anthoni (his first film), Jayson MacBride, John Farrel, Dave Daniels, Tim Christy , Scott Heith, Paul Strand, and Bob Perry

Now don't start pulling your wieners out, this clip has no sex. But, it's a great example of what made me love the films from Hand In Hand - the bits about gay life that I wouldn't have had any other way of finding out about in 1979 when I first started going to the porno theatre. Keith's just been told by his lover that they shouldn't be monogamous; not happy about it, Keith immediately makes a date with the waiter (Jayson MacBride - misspelled in this film as McBride) before leaving the lover at the table! Keith then enjoys sex with MacBride, men in a porno theatre, guys in personnel ads, etc., before his lover wishes he hadn't asked for the open relationship.

$$$
after about an hour of him pulling what he wanted, and me trying not to look like I was looking at his buttcrack and that hairy spot above it as he bent over to get to the bottom shelf, he produced a fistful of money. Yeah!

he had sat there, in front of the two rows of vinyl, quickly but thoroughly looking at each, occasionally pausing in some sort of awe ("Big Audio Dynamite, on Def-Jam??!"), (Yes, that's Fred Schnieder's The Shake Society, which he didn't take - no accounting for taste, eh?)

Anthropology 101
Boys of Riverside Drive

"Tricking - remember that word, it will be on the quiz"

director: Jack Deveau

Who knew Tony did voiceovers for 1970's porno flicks?

bear foot

OK, last pic from the weekend; then sometime over this weekend I will get back to work and find some hotMANonMANpornography to post, K? but this was my favorite pic that I took, of my best buddy and host Scott and co-swimmer frolicker Jeff (or at least his foot - from the look on Scott's face, I can only guess where the rest of Jeff was). Co-host George, former blogguy FOXY (I can't believe when I finally get around to adding his link to the "elsewhere" slot, he'd given up the bloghobby!), and out-of-towner Jaime were the others in the house for the funweekend.

beachy

a few more here.... the snake pics didn't turn out so good - damn that thing moved fast. there's a bunch of pics of two pals who couldn't stay out of the ocean - i'll ask permission to publish before I show them (i know, i know, if you're a stranger and nekkid, I have no qualms about publishing you..); video of same pair is good, but too huge to upload here.

mer-man

well, i made it. and had fun, frolicked on the beach, and did unspeakable things I never thought I would do (OK, i'll fess up - I bought a pair of flip-flops, and wore them in public!), and burned the tops of my feet (seems to be a tradition for me when going to the beach), and took many walks by myself - which I enjoyed immensely, even with the sad moments of remembering other times at the beach with you-know-who, and took lots of pics, and talked to lots of people in the MeatRack who stumbled upon me crotching down on one knee..... photographing a snake (no, really).

And there's more - some observations I'll keep to myself (and/or the therapist and good friends) - but others - like what's the deal with being in a "bearhouse" and the bong is going like nonstop and NO ONE EATS! and its true - cherrrygrove people are much friendlier than the pinespeople....

and I tried to update my "elsewhere" list over there on the top rightish area.... rather embarassing how many folks gave up blogging years ago and I had no clue, and others I thought I had added, but had the wrong URL, or my copying/pasting was flawed; "demoted" a few downward, since their "blogs" are really gay-ad-pages with some writing thrown in around the middle somewhere, and well.... who knows if it took, cuz every 3 minutes i get this from blogger - Your publish is taking longer than expected.
To continue waiting for it to finish, click here.

- like, why WOULD'T I want it to finish?

well, one last long-weekend nap for me... more later, maybe.

i dunno...

i've been invited out there, you know, that place the gay boys go in summer. I may well not make it, as I really need to do my hair; I have my vinyl collection to sort out so I can give-away, toss, sell it; then there's the new answering machine I haven't yet programmed; and dammit, the back of the fridge is all dusty and needing of vaccuming, and godknows that's causing godknowswhat amount of wasted energy, and I try to be as energy-efficient as possible and... the only way I think i could possibly maybe get out there is to a) not think about it and just do it, or b) make it a bj's gay porno-crazed ramblings assignment, and attempt to establish exactly which hot tub, and which deck, those Target Studios pics above where taken some 30 years ago..... hmmmmm.

misc stuff

it's not that i don't like posting, it's just that i get more distracted than usual lately. good pic, fun song, and i get distracted from the background info, or funny story, or that video clip of gloryholes i promised some guy's boyfriend on some m4m4m4m4fun site. and to be frank, too many things just send me back into sadness and, well, let's just say something less fun than sadness. just the other night, i dig into the freezer, and scoop out a simple cupful of peach sorbet. how could that go wrong? but then, in my head, i hear him saying the simple word "peach" - referring to me, and it's his voice, in my head, saying one simple word in his soft gentle voice, and i get sad, then angry, then something else, wondering why I can't hear it for real, and all the other expressions and sayings that were "his" or "ours" that I no longer get to experience "live" but just in my sad, sad imagination.

and then there's thursday - gosh, last thursday was one of the worse in a long long time. probably because it was unexpected, and nothing actually happened, it just that i was a mess, and i don't know how i managed to not run home and hide in this room. but several times during the day i fled the workplace and tried to find comfort in the hot, crowded, smelly midtown manhattan streets. and then the two times i dodged into the men's room to have a good cry, and of course bursting into tears in front of a co-worker, and then the boss, trying to review my long long list (incomplete, because i got so overwhelmed) of "to do" items, got to see me, once again, tear up, and fidget, until he knew to let me be and quietly deal with it alone.... sometime after 7pm i made it home, while many of my co-workers had left for the holiday weekend hours earlier, and collapsed in this room, hoping i could make it through the weekend......

so, what have we learned? first, that my hopes of ending therapy anytime soon are dashed, not even going to a once-every-two-weeks schedule will do at this point. two, um, gee, what else have i learned? nothing. but - well, over the course of the weekend, i got a very nice, unexpected surprise - and it's due to actually having kept up on posting on this page. A reader happened to be visiting new york, saw the pic of the birdie on the Avenue A/6th street sign, and recognized it as being right in the neighborhood. to make a long story short, he emailed, i got over my fear of fearful things, and we met up, had a nice dinner, many laughs, and i got to not only meet someone new and nice, but get a glimpse of me not being a mess, and got some hope that that particular me is still in there somewhere, so it was a calming experience, to say the least. oops, time for shower, clothing, biking into midtown, and crossing my fingers that anxiety and despair don't visit today. this song, and that pic, obviously have nothing to do with anything, except to have something nice to look at, and something silly to listen to.

We were watching the game....
"I actually thought about giving it to her last night, but demurred."

I know every gayblog and/or politicalblog is yapping about this, but i had to add my 2 cents.

Dear Governor Crist:
Trying to butch it up by mentioning you were watching "the game" might fool some people - OK, can't blame you for trying, if that's what you think you gotta do - I get it. But C'MON!! - you were about to interrupt the game to propose, but you "demurred"???? What straight guy, excuse me, what guy says "demurred"??
